Since 1st January 2012 (decree n° 2011-2008 of 28 Decembre 2011), the Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration and the Tropical Aquarium were grouped in a State public cultural institution, responsible for developing each of the scientific and cultural projects composing it and enhancing the comprehensive heritage of the Palais de la Porte Dorée. Combining the two activities in a single public institution, planned in 2006, facilitates transversal funding while preserving the cultural and scientific distinctness of each entity.
The missions of each entity remain unchanged.
